About the Event
Working with fresh, dried and frozen flowers we'll be exploring the art of botanical dyeing on silk. Enjoy infusing the natural pigments from petals into beautiful fibres using a sustainable and mindful process. Each participant receives a large silk scarf ready to dye and take home, giving you the opportunity create something special for yourself.
In the workshop you will:
Mordant the silk to prepare it for dyeing.
Choose suitable flowers and lay out on the silk.
Experiment with a test swatch and learn about the use of modifiers to change colours.
Eco dye your silk piece using a hot bundle technique.
Learn about caring for naturally dyed fabrics.
Please bring a selection of cut flowers from a place or occasion meaningful to you. Fresh, dried or frozen are all OK. Dark petals will usually produce more intense colours than light.
