Colour and Print a Silk Cushion
Time & Location
About the Event
In this full day workshop you will make a silk cushion cover, with linen backing, using natural dyeing techniques in two stages. This involves making a dye bath of solid colour first, then creating a print from leaves over the top of that colour with a hot bundle technique.
You'll have access to a selection of different coloured dye baths to work with, giving you the potential for a variety of results. We'll take a walk around the garden to forage for suitable leaves then use these leaves to create prints. While our bundles 'cook', it's time for lunch before revealing what's inside. Finally, you will sew the silk and linen together to create the cover for your cushion.
Please note: this workshop is suitable for those who have some natural dyeing experience, or have previously attended my beginners eco print workshop. It's also useful, but not essential, to have very basic machine sewing skills. Silk will be pre-mordanted, and fabrics cut to size by tutor.
Ticket price includes silk satin and linen fabrics to create one cushion cover.
1 NZ made duck feather filled cushion inner.
All equipment and full day's tutoring.
Morning & afternoon tea.
Please bring your own lunch and a pair of clean rubber gloves. An apron and a camera/notebook to document your progress are optional. You are also welcome to bring your own sewing machine, or use one of mine.
