About the Event
Explore the fundamentals of dyeing with Indigo and Japanese Shibori. You’ll learn the basic process of vat dyeing with plant derived, beautiful blue Indigo. Experiment with various Shibori resist techniques to create patterns on fabric and then use this knowledge to dye items brought from home. This is a great opportunity for upcycling as a eco friendly approach that fits with natural dyeing.Â
Please bring up 1 - 5 items from home to dye. Choose natural materials - cotton, linen, silk, wool and hemp - and pre washed is best. Avoid bulky items (jeans, wool jumpers, sheets) as vat space will be limited. Wear suitable old clothes. You will also need elbow length rubber gloves, a container to take wet materials home, and you may wish to bring a camera or notebook to document as you go. If there is enough active indigo at the end of the session, participants can take some home and will need a lidded container for this.
Suitable for adults and children over 11 years. (or younger if registering with an adult).
