About the Event

Indigo is a beautiful ancient blue dye made from the indigo plant. A little bit of science and what seems like magic will dye your preloved clothes and fabrics a classic denim blue. You'll learn some tie dyeing techniques to create a 'resist' on the fabric and make unique funky patterns then get plenty of time to dip and dunk and create a fabulous upcycled wardrobe of clothes.

Each participant can bring no more than 4 items of clothing each (or similar) from home to dye. These need to be made of natural materials - cotton  (note: polycotton does not dye well), linen, silk - preferably in pale or white colours.   T shirts, singlets, pillowcases, tea towels, hats, socks etc are all good. No bulky items like jumpers or jeans as vat space will be limited. All items should be washed and dried beforehand, especially new items.

Wear suitable old clothes. Also bring rubber gloves and a waterproof container to take wet materials home. Tutor provides all other materials. BYO morning tea snack and dress for the weather as we'll be working outside.

NOTE: This workshop is designed for families to share the experience of creating together - both items and memories. Strictly 7 years and up please. Siblings may need only bring one adult along.
