About the Event
Working with freshly cut spring flowers and florists waste we'll be exploring the art of dyeing with flowers on silk. Enjoy infusing the natural pigments from petals into beautiful natural fibres using a sustainable and mindful process. Each participant receives a silk scarf ready ready to dye. And if you wish, buy something from my collection of preloved silk clothes off the rack (nothing over $50) to elevate into botanical gorgeousness.
All other materials provided, but I invite you to bring flowers from a place or occasion meaningful to you. Fresh, dried or frozen are all OK. BYO lunch, tea and coffee provided.
Karen Williamson is an natural dyer with experience in eco printing and in teaching workshops. For an insight into the process see Karen's short video at YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hbGtcnN_mQQ&t=2s
Please note, this class does not cover the mordanting process. For an full day's masterclass including how to mordant fabrics for dyeing, Karen runs a full day workshops entitled 'From Whenua to Fibre' and 'Sustainable Makeovers' once or twice per year and individual lessons by arrangement.
