About the Event
Bringing two natural dyeing techniques together on one garment, you will create layers of colour and pattern using natural flower dyes overlayed with an indigo blue resist. This year has been tough for getting together to workshop, so I have devised this day to give you a taste of both processes, two workshops combined into one. You will take home a unique beautiful scarf for yourself or to give as a gift, plus swatches of fabric to use later in your own projects.
Cost includes a pre-mordanted silk scarf and fabric swatches, natural dyes, tutoring, equipment and morning tea (gluten free).
Please BYO lunch and a small selection of brightly coloured flowers from your own neighbourhood to share with the group. A list of flower suggestions will be emailed to participants. In addition please bring one or two pieces of fabric or clothing from home to indigo dye.
Bring elbow length rubber gloves and a camera or notebook to document your work.
Please note, this workshop takes time to focus on the making rather than the theory so we will not be covering how to mordant or make up an indigo vat in depth.
Suitable for beginners aged 16 and up.
COVID restrictions will apply as per govt requirements to allow for the freedom of movement and korero that makes these workshops so rewarding (please read policy).
